Lasers in dentistry have become very useful. Our office uses a diode laser for several procedures including limited soft tissue surgery. Advantages of laser surgery include less tissue damage, post-operative pain, quicker healing, and minimal to no bleeding during surgery. Some other uses for a diode laser include:
- Treatment of apthous ulcers (canker sores). Very painful apthous ulcers can be easily treated with a diode laser without any anesthesia. Patients experience immediate relief from pain and heal quickly once treated.
- Treatment of incipient oral and lip herpes cold sores. If treated early before the vesicles appear, laser treatment can stop the progress of the viral attach.
- Correction of the "gummy smile". This procedure is simple and greatly enhances the cosmetic appearance off patients.
